There are no words

Kimberly Stewart to Marry Laguna Beach Hunk

Ok, so who am I kidding, I have about a thousand words for something like this:
Bizarre
Insane
Stupid
Pitiful
Unforeseen
and the list goes on...
Courtesy of People Magazine's article online (and my sister Lisa, queen of celeb gossip), unfortunately this is all true. First of all, she's 26 and he's 19- strange, but not like it's never happened before. Second, they have been dating for a whole 2 months, woohoo, it must be SERIOUS. What the hell is going on here? Shouldn't he still have a crush on Kristen or that other chick with the blonde hair? What are his parent's thinking? The questions are endless. Don't worry though, one of his friend's was quoted describing the crazy love that has prompted this engagement by saying, "He told me he really likes her and they're having a good time." Wow, that's probably what my 5th grade boyfriend said when we were going out. I can't wait to see how this one plays out.
ps- If Kristen or LC gets engaged to Jake Gyllenhaal I will have to take them out.

He's even dumber than we gave him credit for

Well I hope little baby Preston got his mom's brains and not daddy's- not that that's saying much anyways.

Courtesy of WENN:

Kevin Federline boasts about his life with wife Britney Spears and demands to be called "Daddy" in a track from his forthcoming hip-hop debut. The 27-year-old's LP has yet to be released, but a track called "Y'All Ain't Ready" has appeared on the internet. Federline celebrates the lifestyle he shares with Spears and their baby son Sean Preston, but makes an embarrassing slip - confusing the word paparazzi with the surname of opera singer Luciano Pavarotti. He raps, "Back then they called me K-Fed/But you can call me Daddy instead/Go ahead and say whatcha wanna/I'm gonna sell about 2 mil, oh, then I'm a goner/I know you all wish you was in my position/Cause I keep getting' in situations that you wish you was in, cousin/Steppin' in this game and y'all ain't got a clue/Getting anxious? Go take a peep/I'm starrin' in your magazines now every day and week/But maybe baby you can wait and see/Until then all these Pavarottis followin' me."

Do I even have to say anything?

You know you loved him too

Back in the more simple time of 1986, I had a Michael Jackson wallet and an MJ microphone. Yep, I was a huge fan. HUGE. My first record (wow that makes me feel old) was Thriller and from that point on I followed along the same path that so many others did, even though now some deny it, but face it, about 90% of us loved him and his songs.

These days its a different story. Who the hell knows anymore. Did he? Didn't he? It really doesn't matter anymore because he is forever tainted in our minds. Sure there are still diehards out there and I give them credit for sticking with him, but I am just not so sure about the whole thing.

Anyways, all that said, I read this on WENN today:

"Michael Jackson has recruited troubled R&B star R. Kelly to perform on his charity single for America's hurricane victims."

Umm, does anyone else see how this may not be the best selection for Michael right now? I mean of all singers, lets pick the one who is facing child pornography charges, no one will think a thing of that.

In other news, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard were spotted lunching at a cafe two blocks from my apartment this past weekend. All I can say is, thank God Jake wasn't there or else I would be severly devasted that I was that close to him and didn't know it. I can't wait for the dreams to be had after seeing Jarhead.

I saw In Her Shoes this past weekend and it was much better than I thought it would be. I personally find Cameron Diaz really annoying, but she worked in her role here as the slutty, bitch sister. I recommend seeing it with your sister or your mom. Good Times.

By far the best review of the weekend was Movin' Out. Good lord that was one hell of a production! By far it was the best Broadway show I have seen to date. Twlya Tharp's choreography is amazing and the performers just blow you away. I didn't want it to end. If you haven't seen it, GO- because it closes on December 11th of this year.

Another movie that looks super good is the latest from Woody Allen called Match Point. It is pretty Closer-esque, but still very intriguing.

Mood of the moment = bitchy

If you are thinking "big surprise" then you read this blog far too much.

Nah, I'm not that bad am I? I think I'm just more apt to write when something pisses me off.

Anyways, it only seems fitting that on the day of my finance midterm it is rainy and stormy. I have been studying like a crazy person for the past 5 days and there are still some concept which elude me. I spent 6 hours just last night working on triangular arbitrage, and I think I finally get it, which great, but all it will take is the professor to throw in some damn twist (which you know they always do) for me to get all screwed up and make it look like I didnt study one damn bit.

Due to this excessive studying I haven't been sleeping much. Well that and the little monster that lives above us is allowed to stomp around at all hours of the night. He's like 3 years old, he should not be up at 1am. I'm convinced that there isnt even any furniture up there, its just a big race track that he runs on at night.

So, because of not sleeping much, I move slower in the morning, but am still able to get out on time. Well, there's nothing like getting to your subway stop to see that yet again something is on fire and your train service is delayed. So, because of that I had to rush to Grand Central to try and catch my train. I did. Great right? Well you would think so, except that my train ended up getting to Stamford station 20 minutes late, just enough time for me to miss the last shuttle to work- so I walk. So you are thinking I am a whiny little snot, but this is a long walk- I mean long enough that they provide shuttle service. So I am walking. It's cold, its drizzling, but worst of all its windy as hell. I am trying to push forward, but it feels like 3 grown men are pulling me backwards. I am carrying my purse, my lunch, and my bag, which contains my 40 pound finance book. In a matter of 25 minutes I have gone from a fresh face and soft hair to watery eyes, runny nose, and giant knot of hair.

And its 10:30am and I am hungry for lunch. This is not a good start.

Leave them alone you little bitch

Well tomorrow may be just another day of meetings and school for us here in NY, but down south is whole different story. My sisters don't have school and my parent's offices have closed all in preparation for the 8th hurricane to hit Florida in the last 14 months.

When I lived there the whole situation was much easier to get a handle on, but being away is truly aggravating and you feel helpless. When I move to NYC last August, I arrived here about 2 weeks after Hurricane Charley, and 7 days before Hurricane Francis- the one which caused my family to evacuate. Of course with emotions soaring at this point to start with due to a whole new beginning so far away, the thought of my family going through all of that while I was here was excruciating. Luckily my roommate, also from Florida, was experiencing the same thing- so we had a good support system.

While my family continues to be faced with constant hurricane threats, we are overall really lucky because other than some roofing, trees down, and some flooding, we have been A-Ok. My parents had actually made plans to come visit me this week and are set to arrive here on Thursday. I am hoping that skies will be sunny and the weather will be wonderful, because after the next 24 hours, they'll need it.

I would give my right arm for some french toast right now

Well it's my first day off in 11 days and guess what time I slept in until- 8:30am.

Yes, I officially have the "I'm old now so I can't sleep in anymore no matter what time I go to bed" disease. But it wasn't all me this morning, I woke up due partially to the sounds of helicopters and sirens- which is always lovely. Well it turns out that the West 4th subway station, that I could probably hit with a rock from my apt, is on fire and evacuated. Kind of interesting part is that this is the one day I dont have to go to work, and if I did have to go to work, I get to that subway stop at 8:05 am precisely everyday- which is exactly the time the fire was reported.

And now for randomness:

I love Ellen, but doesn't she ever get tired of dancing at the beginning of her shows? Can you imagine being in a shit mood and having to go out there and dance around?

Those nextel phones, with their walkie talkie like annoyingness, should be destroyed. I loathe them and the people who talk on them.

Do you ever think you will get to a point in your life where this article leaves you thinking "yea, that's a good idea".

I have been searching online for a ticket home for thanksgiving and refuse to purchase one because for the price of a ticket from NYC to Orlando, I could purchase 2 tickets to London. Does this make sense to anyone? Not I.

Alright. Enough avoiding writing my midterm paper. Ciao.

So I was making out with Ashton Kutcher...

...in my dream last night, which is all very strange because I am not in the least attracted to him. The even stranger part is that we were in my bed and when I looked past him, I noticed there was another girl also sleeping in my bed- no girl that I recognize. Then of course as it all starts to get good, my stupid alarm goes off. Have you ever been in the middle of a really good dream when your alarm goes off and you keep your eyes closed, press snooze, and pray that you fall back asleep and resume the dream? Yea well I tried that and it didn't work. I have no boyfriend & I'm not having sex, dear God can't I at least finish my damn dream? Apparently not.

Dreams are crazy though and I have had some really nutty ones including a period of time in which all I dreamt about were alligators. Ive looked up the stuff in those dream books but it never makes any sense. One of my other recent dreams was me and a whole bunch of people were at this hotel/rec center type thing for what looked like project graduation, except we were all in our 20's. The strange thing, even though it wasnt strange at the time, was that everyone was topless. It was no big deal in the dream, but looking back of course it makes me wonder. To top it all off, in the midst of this topless extravaganza there is a cupcake stand where the mother of one of my good friends is selling cupcakes, also topless. Very very strange.

I wonder if you can make yourself dream about something. Wouldn't that be a neato trick. With the amount of times I have seen that Elizabethtown trailer you would think I would be having dreams about Orlando Bloom. Unfortunately I am not that lucky.

I'll tell you who has made a few appearances in my dreams lately, Viggo Mortensen. Now he's not most ladies top pick, but there is something about him that is extremely intriguing. For you single ladies, go see A History of Violence, it's a guaranteed Viggo dream inducer. For you ladies in relationships, go buy a cheerleader outfit and then go see it. Your boyfriend will thank me.

Just when you thought you heard the last of me....

...I'm back.

Well I am still getting hits on this site everyday so that means I either have loyal readers awaiting my return or people googling for random shit that sends them my way.

Well it has been a hell of a long time to leave you post-less but a lot has changed in these past two months. Here's the rundown:

-Spent a lovely month in Florida in August soaking up some great family time and relaxing after a busy summer.

-Over the summer I took a course on magazines & newspapers and our final project was to develop a business plan for a new mag and pitch it to our teacher (the publisher of Smart Money Magazine). Well I pitched a new concept for a golf magazine and my teacher really took to it. So much so that we are in the process of setting up a meeting with the publisher of Golf Digest. There's no telling where this could go, but I've got my fingers crossed.

-Interviewed and was hired for my second internship with NBC, this time working in Olympic Operations. The Olympics offices are located in Stamford, CT- so it is a bitch and a half to get to work everyday, but they pay my transportation and I figured it would be worth it to be just involved in the upcoming games.

-Well it definitely was worth it. About 4 weeks into my internship my boss, the Director of Operations, offered me a positions as an Ops. Asst. during the games in Italy this winter. This would put me living in Italy working for the Olympics for 2 months. So of course a billion things needed to be answered first. I was planning on walking in May and graduating in August and now I had to make sure how to make this all work out. Long story short it is all working out and I leave for Italy on January 8th. It still has not completely hit me yet.

-On the school front, I was registered for a Sports Marketing class this semester that got moved to another campus at the last minute, so I reluctantly signed up for a class called "The Marketing of Creativity"- no professor listed. This of course is normally a deathtrap, but imagine my surprise when I walk into the first class and find that Joseph Abboud (famous fashion designer) is my professor. Talk about an interesting class. I already read his book and thought it was really great. It's not some fashionista course, although now the class is booked with buyers and designer wannabes. Joseph is actually extremely bright and insightful and its crazy to hear him talk about working with Ralph Lauren, Armani, and the lot of them like its no big thing. If you are so inclined, his book is titled "Threads" and has this girl's recommendation.

Well I think that just about sums it up for now. I'll hopefully keep up the writing thing so don't give up on me just yet.

Kisses.

Well I finally got to let it out

Ever since I moved here I have noticed many things about the differences between bars/clubs here and bars/clubs in Florida- the main thing being: hardly anyone dances. We can be at a really cool bar and they are playing awesome music and people will just sit there like its no big thing. Meanwhile I am dying to dance, but no one is dancing. Sure, there have been some places where there is "dancing", but its the "I don't really want to dance I am just kind of standing here moving around" type of thing.

What I want is the get down, hair in your face, so hot you're sweating, dancing. You know, the kind that you can feel the after affects in your legs for days after. Well, I am happy to say that last night I found that place and almost one year of built up non-dancing frustration was unleashed on all those there. Oh yea.

The place was Aubar on E. 58th. Let me tell you that DJ was amazing last night. EVERYONE was dancing their asses off and the music and atmosphere were fantastic. If you live in NYC and you haven't been there and enjoy getting down, I highly recommend it. My normal selection of places to frequent isn't normally this kind of place because it has a "strict & selective" door policy where the guy choosing to let you in is the wearing sunglasses at night type- but it is well worth it for the dancing.

This week is going to fly by and I couldn't be happier about that. I have a final on Monday, a major presentation on Tuesday, and an interview with NBC Sports & Olympics on Wednesday. The best part is that on Thursday I fly home to Florida for a month before school starts again. I will miss you new york, but I have got to have some family, pooch, and beach time. See you on the flip side.

There's a monster in my stomach

Well it was margarita night last night with the ladies and we headed over to Mo's Carribean on the Upper East Side for $1 margarita night. What do you think when you hear $1 margaritas? I anticipate a cup full of slushy ice crap that has a little flavor, but definitely no tequila. Well I was wrong- this place actually had strong margaritas for $1. My stupid mistake was consuming about 7 of these without anything more than some chips and salsa in my tummy. I am paying the price today. You know when you are in that "I can't even think about eating even though I know it will make me feel better" mood? Well I forced myself to eat something and it just isnt helping. It doesnt help that daytime tv is crap. I can only watch so many reruns of Laguna Beach. Ok, so I'm lying about that part. We all know I have a Laguna Beach problem.

I went running yesterday around the Washington Square Park area and let me tell you I thought I was going to die afterwards. Now before you start thinking I have no athletic endurance, what I am referring to is the extreme heat. Dear God what the hell is going on here?? Some days it is worse than Florida- particularly the days I have to ride on the subway. Down there it feels like you are all just sitting in a crock pot.

Weekend Rewind

I'd have to say that this past weekend scored about an 7.5 out of 10 on the old fun-o-meter. Not too shabby at all. Friday night I joined some friends at the Hotel Gansevoort in the meatpacking district for a birthday party for some guy I met for 2 seconds- ahh the bonds we make. The drinks ended up being like $15 each so we didn't last too long there. We later ended up at Brass Monkey where I proceeded to get pretty drunk and finally get some dancing out of my system. Its always fun to see the faces of friends who you've been out with before but have not yet been exposed to "that side" of you. Luckily, they were happy faces, delighted to see I had crossed over into the bad place.

I also saw the Wedding Crashers, and if you haven't, get off your ass and get to the theatre because it was so hilariously good. I mean I knew it was going to be funny, but not that funny. Vince Vaughn delivers some killer lines.

In other news- Am I the only one who has never read a Harry Potter book? I've seen more people my age get excited about this book than kids. I hear J.K. Rowling is now the richest woman in Britain.

I am almost done reading Bergdorf Blondes and I must say, unless there is some amazing turnaround in the end, I am none too impressed. I mean I didn't expect too much and kind of just grabbed this book when I was in the airport, but it is so far from my new york city life that it almost doesn't even seem believeable even in a make-believe way. Most of the characters repulse me and I think I just end up getting jealous of how such stupid women can manage to get men all the time. The answer to that so far = money. I'm not an avid reader of "chic lit", soI am hoping that this book doesn't speak for the genre.

Has anyone seen that show on ABC called "Hooking Up"? I think its first episode was this past week- and I am already addicted. It follows the tales of 11 women that are looking for love over the internet. It's pretty good so far and almost makes you want to try the whole online dating thing. Until of course you realize you've already done that and it ended poorly. I use to be on Lavalife and did actually meet a guy one time. I'm not proud of it, but not embarrassed either. I was honest and sent a real pic. He on the other hand sent an old pic. A 30lbs lighter pic. Not that I am all about looks, but come on, deception is not the way to start out. Needless to say, after that night I closed my account and it hasn't been ressurected. At least not yet.

California knows how to party

Well I've been back in NYC for a few days now, but am still yet to return to eastern time. The trip was amazing and exactly what I needed- well sort of. Here's the rundown:

Number of Navy fly boys around: 13

Number of drinks consumed over the week: lots and lots

Number of hours spent on the beach: 10+

Number of bars we got kicked out of: 1

Number of wineries visited in Temecula Valley: 4

Number of party buses that brokedown on the highway: 1

Number of dead mice scooped out of the pool and served on a plate to me with shredded cheese for breakfast: 1 (thank you Brandon and Runzel)

Number of casinos visited: 1

Number of lbs of chicken we bought and then never cooked and had to throw out: 10

Number of pictures I took: 83

Number showing me in a bathing suit and will therefore be deleted from existence: 4

Number of times I wanted to jump a flyboy but didn't because I was stupid enough to have a semi-date for that weekend: 483

Number of times I heard the guy I use to like/have sex with; have sex with someone else: 1 (cyanide tablet please?)

Yep, that about sums it up. It was an awesome crazy time, but also a trip of realizations. The LA guy that I liked so much- yeah, not so much anymore. I mean he's sweet and all, but I think the attraction is gone for me. Then again its got to be hard standing up next to some of these navy boys you know? Well my plan for the trip was sex and alcohol, yep I was doing it spring break style. At least I got the alcohol part done right. Crap. That's cool, I'll just have sex next year.

Oh, and just to share- here's my backhanded compliment of the day:

The scene: my class group is leaving school and talking about how everyone looks at the moment

outspoken girl of the group says: "well Laura, she always looks...."
Another girl: "like she just got off the beach" (yea, I'll take that)
back to outspoken girl: "...well she always looks so cute, her hair, her clothes- she looks like she just jumped out of GAP Kids"

Thats right people, not GAP- GAP Kids. And she actually thought that was a compliment.
Fuck you fat bitch.

Watch out world, Tom Cruise apparently knows everything

Alright so I came across this article this morning about Tom Cruise and Matt Lauer in a heated interview on the TODAY Show. All I can say is that if those Tom Cruise quotes are correct, and Im sure they are, then Tom Cruise sounds like he is on his way to being more and more disliked.

Well its officially 5 days before I leave for sunny San Diego. I am really excited, but I would be more excited if the trip there wasn't going to be hell on earth. My best friend's mother is a flight attendant and gave me a free roundtrip ticket to wherever they fly. Sweet right? Of course. I am so completely thankful for it. Unfortunately, they only fly out of Islip airport in Long Island.

Check out my trip to Cali:

Taxi to bus stop at 40th street
Take the Hampton Jitney for an hour to Long Island
Take taxi from dropoff point to the airport
Wait at airport 2 hours early (its a standby ticket)
Take off and fly to Baltimore- switch planes
Take off and fly to New Mexico- sit for 30 minutes
Take off and land in San Diego- 100 billion hours later

Something tells me that I will either arrive in a shitty ass mood or totally smashed.

Its going to be a good time though. I have plans to explore San Diego, party it up on the beach on the 4th, and spend a day in Temecula Valley doing some wine tasting. The best part is that my LA guy is driving down for 2 days to spend time with me- yay!

Alrighty, back to writing this damn paper.

Which one of you bitches is obsessed with me?

Well I guess we all knew it was going to happen.

But did anyone think it would happen this quick? I guess I should be happy for her, but I am still adjusting to the weirdness of it all. I really love Nicole Kidman too so I guess I was secretly wishing they were back together. However, my wishes having to do with the opposite sex never come true or else I wouldn't be writing right now, I'd be in bed with Christian Bale. Ahh Christian. I need to see Batman Begins this weekend, has anyone seen it yet?

I went to the "Drive In Movies at the Rock" last night to watch Rosanna Arquette's film. It was pretty cool even though it was rainy and Rosanna showed up to introduce the film and then sat and watched it with us. If it doesn't rain tomorrow night maybe I'll head out there again. Tonight, its Rink Bar.

In "Laura is a freak magnet" news- I got two phonecalls from an "unknown" number yesterday. The first one I didn't answer and the second time they left a message. Now first imagine some scary little gremlin voice. Now imagine that voice saying "Laura when are you coming home...I'm waiting for you". Yea, that was the message. No it wasn't any of my friends or anything like that.

I wish I could say this is an isolated event, but it isn't. A year or so ago some idiots found my screen name and proceeded to bother me asking me questions about highschool and then random things about my current friends. Needless to say they were blocked, although I never found out who they were. Then last year I got a message on my machine of a guy singing the whole "you are my sunshine" song to me. No idea who it was, I listened to it like a billion times. Again, and unknown number.

Most recently before yesterday, back in September I was home in FL for my dad's bday and I got a text msg from someone with a 321 area code (Melbourne, where I am from). The message said "I love you more than you know". I replied back and said " I think you have the wrong number". Then they said "No I dont think so". And that was it. I googled the number and was only able to find out that it was a cell phone.

So yea, who is this freak and why the hell are they obsessed with me? Im just a regular girl. Anyways, I was looking at my site hits this morning and noticed that there was a google reference. I love those because people always get to my site from searching for crazy things. Well guess what this google search was: "get laura now". And the paranoia continues...

This shit is bananas

Well what a damn crazy week I have had. I've told this story oh so many times now that I am going to have to give you the short version because I just don't have the energy. On Monday I was at a regular doctor's appointment at school and was getting blood taken when I blacked out and go into what my doctor said was 3 separate seizures. Ever since I was little I have had a thing with fainting but I had thought I outgrew any kind of reaction. Apparently not. Anyways, when I finally came to after the third "seizure", I had lost all the feeling in my hands, my body temp had dropped to like 93 degrees and wasn't breathing very well. Before I could even really realize what was happening the paramedics were there and I was being loaded onto a stretcher, oxygen mask and all. While riding in the ambulance I was just in state of shock and confusion, luckily the hospital was really close. Anyways, to sum this all up, I was in the ER for most of the day getting bloodwork done and a catscan. Everything came out normal and they would like to say that it was just a case of fainting considering the circumstance, but they are unable to say (due to me shaking and my eyes rolling back) that it definitely wasn't a seizure unless they witnessed it themselves. So long story short, I am doing well, relieved everything came back normal, and have no plans to get any blood drawn for a very long time.

So yea, that was my Monday.

The rest of the week so far has been pretty good, thank god we are moving away from this heatwave. It has been so unbearable, I dont know how those guys walk around in business suits. I walk around in tank tops and cotton skirts and I am still dying of heat. The next step is to shave my head but I am convinced my skull wont be attractive.

Alrighty Im out of here. Hey NYC'ers- whats the best place to get really good Sangria?

26 is the new 25

Well summer has officially hit New York City and what grander of an entrance to make than to give us a 94 degree day like today. You know, one of those days where you get dressed and walk to the street corner and you are already sweaty. It wasn't even this hot in Florida when I was there on Monday. All of you bastards with central air, I am cursing you right now.

This past Saturday was my 26th birthday. Yep, thats right, I might look like I am 19, but I am in fact now (as my sister likes to call it): four years away from being thirty. No comment. Ever have one of those years when you have a birthday and you are like "this is my year, this is when its all going to happen!". Well I said that for 25, and I guess looking back it all did really "happen". I applied to grad school, quit my secure job, gave up my fabulous apartment, left all my family and friends and moved to NYC, where I scored an apartment in the best location ever, was immediately elected an officer of Fordham's Business' largest media organization, and interned at what has been my #1 media job choice for as long as I can remember, NBC. If it sounds like I am tooting my own horn, I am, and I'm allowed to, it was my birthday damnit and Im going to relfect. Oh, and I also left out the part about meeting who I thought could be "the one", but since he is now in LA I figured that kind of cancels out, but it was nice to have those feelings again. For a second it was like I had a boyfriend, imagine that.

So I guess I'm excited about 26. I mean I will be interning again, graduating, and who knows what else, hopefully there is a job in that mix, and maybe a boy, or two. I guess I'm not really freaked out about my age that much. I will probably start to get a little nervous when I am in the 28 to 30 age range, but then again, thats what I thought about 25, and look here I am, one year past and doing swell.

Well thats all I got for now. In case I dont make it back to the blog by Friday, for those in the NYC area make sure to check out The Greenwich Village Bar Tour this Saturday- its tons of drunken fun.

Where are you sexy little bastards?

So I woke up this morning with that feeling that something was suppose to happen today. All morning it drove me crazy because I couldn't think of what the hell it was. Then it hit me. Fleet Week begins today. Now for most of you this is no big deal, but for someone who has a major thing for Navy boys in uniform, this is Christmas in May.

So when I finally realized the parade of ships had started 4 hours earlier, I threw on some clothes and walked out to the river to see if I could catch a glimpse of any of the ships coming in. Well I saw 2, yippy, and then proceeded to walk all the way down to battery park just to catch a smidge of anything navy-esque. Well an hour later I was riding home on the subway glimpse and smidgeless.

My roommate and I were on our way to the Upright Citizens Brigade show when I was telling her about missing the festivities and as I spoke a subway car filled with navy boys flew by me. This continued to happen throughout the night. At one point Im not even sure if I actually saw them or I had started to hallucinate flashes of white. My best friend is a Navy pilot so I have met loads of Navy boys and have had such great times hanging out with them, which I would like to have more of, but I just can't find them.

If I could just befriend one of them so I could get inside info on where all the parties were and stuff that would be great, but I am yet to do so. I read on somone else's blog that Fleet Week headquarters is normally at Red Rock West so maybe I'll give that a whirl.

March your asses on down to the West Village

Thought of the day:
Does anyone else get incredibly happy when seeing this ipod commercial?

As if you needed more proof

10 Reasons why I am weird

1) I keep certain people I find incredibly annoying on my buddy list just because their away messages are some of the most retarded I have ever seen and continually piss me off

2) I hate donuts and have never had a cup of coffee

3) I become more emotionally distraught over harm to animals than harm to humans

4) I get teary eyed at Publix commercials

5) I can be aroused with a man's display of knowledge of history and art (and no I dont mean old fogies, I mean guys around my age you sickies)

6) I once considered an offer to lick a friends balls in exchange for a slice of pizza (if thats not extreme hunger, I dont know what is)

7) I am convinced this place puts something drug-a-licious in their drinks, and not in a good way

8) I really don't like Russell Crowe. I don't know anything about him or much about his movie career, but I genuinely dislike him.

9) I am secretly dying to know what is going on with the cast of MTV's Laguna Beach

10) I think these are nasty nasty little sandwiches - I know someone else out there has to agree

Now that I have shared, give me a reason why you are weird, because let's face it, we both know you are.

Another week begins

Well my mom left this morning after what I would like to say was quite the lovely visit. We had good weather for the most part except for the one day that we really needed it which was yesterday. The Revlon 5k was a great time and a wet one at that. All three miles it rained on us, but I guess it could have been much worse. We did get to see a good handful of celebs and the lady that plays the ADA on Law & Order SVU was standing next to us during the opening ceremonies, and Mariska Hargitay was one of the event hosts, so my mom (a Law & Order junkie) was quite happy.

Today was a gorgeous day and it all started off with me coming back from breakfast and watching 30,000 bikers bike down 6th Ave. at 8am. There is nothing that makes you feel more guilty from just eating delicious french toast than watching thousands of bikers, most of which are much older than you, bike their way to a healthier body. Makeover time is soon approaching.

I've been finding I go to the river quite often these days, especially on days like this where it is just too gorgeous to stay inside. My roommate and I strolled down by the Hudson to Battery Park and as we were walking I spotted someone that looked awfully familiar. Low and behold I had my first star sighting that I didn't have to be told who to look at. I am always the person that never spots anyone and it gets annoying, like...."Hey, that was just Martin Scorcese that just walked by"...yea, a whole 4 people on the street (3 of which were my friends and I) and I miss him. Anyways-do you guys watch Grey's Anatomy? Well I am addicted to that show and the guy I saw is the guy who plays George on that show. You know....the sweet, funny one who lives in the house with them. Yep. Well he is just adorable in person and seemed to be out for a stroll like everyone else.

Oh and thanks to all the suggestions on shows to see. We kind of left it to the last minute and ended up seeing Rent. Great show, great cast, just a little too morbid for me. Does anyone else get annoyed with how no one dresses up for shows anymore? Flips flops and tshirts don't exactly qualify as broadway show attire in my book, but perhaps maybe I am just very traditional with that sort of thing.

Things are falling right into place

I can see it unfolding already, and its going to be a great summer, I just know it. The Shins concert was awwwesome!! Man they really played well and James Mercer's voice just makes you want to love him. Earlier that day my roommate and I headed out for what was suppose to be just a walk along the hudson but ended up being 7.5 miles of walking. We charted it when we came back and we covered the entire southern tip of Manhattan, from Christopher street down. Needless to say my ass is as tight as a brick right now.

My mom comes to visit tomorrow so I am in spring cleaning mode for these next two days. I am thrilled for her to see where I live and explore the area because I know she will love it. For any NYC'ers looking for something to do on Saturday, come out the Revlon Run/Walk 5k for Women. Its going to be a great event and hopefully it won't rain. The money raised benefits all women's cancers. After that there is the Upper West Side Bar Tour, which I am sorry to miss, but I doubt my mom would enjoy it as much as I would.

I really love not working right now (as all of you at your work computers cringe)- yea, but I've been where you are and I didn't care for it one bit, at least not now. So, my solution was to borrow a shitload of money and move here with the hopes I will land an awesome job and have an amazing time. Well the amazing time part can be checked off. I might be getting a part time job at school working as a grad assistant to the asst. dean, so that could be cool, especially since its paid. Truthfully though, I dont know how realistic it is for this summer though because I am traveling somewhere every freaking month. Next month I'm going to Fl, in June I am going to Hilton Head Island, and then in July I'm going to San Diego & Vegas. I am so excited about San Diego and Vegas. I have never been to San Diego before, but have always thought it was so beautiful from what I had seen. Now that my good friend Brandon has a beach house there, it would be crazy for us not to go. Plus being in Vegas with 3 of my closest college friends will be so incredibly fun.

No real news on the guy front other than they confuse the hell out of me, but what else is knew. I met up with some friends at The Black Door in Chelsea on Friday, one of the friends being a guy I worked with at NBC that I assured myself was too young for me (22 versus my almost 26). Yea well it didn't take long for the crush to start all over again. I can't tell if he is interested or not because he shows so many mixed signals. Damn guys. If he doesn't get in touch with me in the next week or so I am hoping the whole "out of sight out mind" thing will work nicely.

Poll- What is the best Broadway show you have been to? My mom wants to go see one while she is here, so Im looking for suggestions. We've already seen Phantom of the Opera, Fosse, & Cabaret- so something besides those. I was thinking Mamma Mia or Wicked......

And my life begins again...

I took my last final tonight and I can't believe that I already have another semester under my belt. What a whirlwind it has been since January. While I love craziness, the semester wore me out between work and school and I am in much need of a very awesome, relaxing summer. This is the first time in a looong time that I don't have work to go to tomorrow or a test to study for. What a weird feeling. I'm really glad that we had great weather the whole time I had to be indoors studying and now that I am done we have a cold front and rain, terrif. Even so, I have a fun weekend planned. Tomorrow I'm heading over to Queens to finally check out this famous beer garden with some friends. I've actually never even been to a beer garden, but it looks pretty neat and is supposedly the only one left in NYC, or so they claim.

Saturday there is some art and garden festival over by NYU, hopefully it won't get rained out. Saturday night is a party for a bud of mine who got a job at NBC and then on Sunday I'm finally going to see The Shins, woohoo! I'd love to see one of the films at the Tribeca Film Festival also, but I wouldn't know where to begin in choosing which one.

So the walls have finally come down on the West 4th station right where I live to reveal the front of a new IFC theatre. Pretty cool eh? At least all that clattering at 8am every morning will at least be for something neat. As far as I know it will have three screens and is set to open late Spring.

For those who are wondeing how my NBC internship wrapped up, it went superbly. I spent my second to last day on the Nightly News set talking to Brian Williams and watching him film an interview. It couldn't have ended it more perfectly.

A question for you NYC'ers--any suggestions on a good afternoon tea & pastry place in the village or soho areas? I know there are billions, but just wanted to see if there were any recommendations.

Wal Mart red bow becomes scarlet letter of singledom

In the coming year if you happen to be in a Wal Mart and a wily looking character with a red bow tied to his cart starts falling you around with cheese and a bottle of wine, well you'll know why. Wal Mart has apparently entered the match making business. That's right, the one place I equate with shopping hell on earth is now the new hotspot for some singles. Luckily, right now this is only going on in their stores in Germany, but it has had such a huge success that they are testing it out in Puerto Rico, South Korea, and Britain. You know what that means...it's only a matter of time before it makes it here.

For those of you interested in what this entails (and you know you all are), here it goes:
On Friday nights between 6 & 8pm single shoppers can come in and are given a bright red bow to attach to their cart or their basket. This should signal other singles to approach them and ask them out. In case you are a little too shy for that, they have also set up what they call "flirting points" which are areas in the store that carry romantic type items like chocolate and wine. In addition you can post your picture on a bulletin board and are assigned a box for people to drop their card in if interested.

Personally, this grosses me out because I have been to several Wal Marts and good looking people are few and far between. Hmm..wait a minute. Ok, keep obvious joke to yourself. Anyways, anyone who has ever frequented a Wal Mart knows what I mean. However, I guess it's not all bad for some people. For example, this story from a Wal Mart in Germany:

"Another cute story," she continued, "is of a 74-year-old woman who posted her picture. A 74-year-old man saw it but was nervous to drop his card in her box. So the Wal-Mart associates first got him spruced up at the hairdressers at the Wal-Mart store, took a picture, and posted it on the board. I think the two of them are now seeing each other."

Now I have to admit that has the "awww" factor in it.

Personally, if it ever gets bad enough that I have to strap a big bright object to me and then parade around in front of others to get their attention...well, let's just hope that never happens.

Just another day in the life on an NBC intern

So I was just walking around the building to go do my satellite feed when I came around a corner and bumped into Kevin Nealon!!! Of course I couldn't remember his name to save the life of me, but I knew he was from SNL and tons of other things. So anyways, he asked me how to get to the 17th floor from where he was (trust me, this building is so confusing)- so I responded only after I realized I was standing there, probably with my mouth open, not saying a word since the moment I saw him. Anyways, he smiled and said thanks and the nice lady he was with also said thanks. Man he is super tall.

Then on my way back Dan Barbosa held the door open for me. Ok, so he's not famous, but it was funny to see him in person. For those of you who don't know, he is a producer of the TODAY show and they did a little stint on him trying to get a date with Tara Reid. Snippet here He is actually much better looking in real life. I wonder how often that is the case....

Also- I was really happy to find out that like 600+ interns applied this semester and they only took like 150 of them. I knew it was competitive, but I didn't know it was THAT competitive- yay me!

Ok that's it, just had to share!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

So I am noticing a trend, and it goes something like this:
Laura spots cute guy, Laura talks to cute guy, Laura realizes she is about 4 years older than cute guy. For some reason, lately all of the guys I am attracted to are 22 years old. How am I magically too old for some guys now?

Well in celebration of my singledom, I am declaring this summer, in Seinfeld style, the summer of Laura. Fun will be had, boys will be kissed, and by god there will be dancing in cute outfits. After this hellish semester I am ready to let it all hang out and really enjoy my first NYC summer. Here's to hoping. No, screw that, its happening. F hope.

Today was a gorgeous St. Patrick's Day. I headed out to the parade for a little bit in between work and I must say that my favorite part, aside from the bagpipers, was all the little old Irish men walking around so happily. They are just adorable.

Here's some pics:

Tomorrow is my last day in NYC before I go to FL for spring break. I can't wait and I'm hoping I will bring a little warm weather back with me because I am sick of seeing all the cute clothes that all the stores are putting out because its too cold to wear them! Stupid stores.

At the end of my block there use to be an internet cafe that had the best smoothies. Sure, they were like $6 a pop, but they were worth it. Well, that closed down about two weeks ago only to be unveiled this week as "Papaya Dog". That's right, in the exact same fashion as Papaya King and Gray's Papaya, there is yet another hot dog joint. The bad news is, its just as good. Well, as good as you can get for a 95cent hotdog. Just what I need 25 feet from my door, cheap temptation.

Alrighty, back to packing. When I return, I'm hoping to feel rejuvenated and well, not be so damn white. Adios!

8 days until Florida

Spring, Summer, I just want whatever season will allow me to get the hell out of these damn pants and boots. I am ready for sundresses and mini skirts, tan skin--and believe it or not- exercise! I swear it is impossible to try and look cute when you have a billion layers on. And going out- forget it. I attempted to still wear cute tops but I would freeze my ass off. Now the cutest thing I can muster up to wear "out" is maybe a sweater with a low neckline...OooOOoohh. Lame. Well not tonight, I'm wearing my sexy top and I don't give a shit.

I leave you with your weekend lesson...

Busted

For those of you who recall, I wrote a post in the past month about an internet company called "Indiigo 2 Emporium Store" who has been playing games with me since last July via email. Long story short, I bought their product, paid for their product, they never sent me the product. If you want to know the whole story, scroll down to the post.

Since the post, I have been contacted by a couple of people who came across my blog while doing a search for this company- it turns out it is the first hit when you google the store name. These people had also been defrauded. Anyways, yesterday I get a call from a Detective in the internet fraud division of the Scottsdale, AZ police department. They received my IFCC filing as well as some 30+ others filed just last year. There were even a couple filed just in the past couple of weeks. Anyways, he told me that they have been investigating this company due to the large amount of filings and were looking for my cooperation in submitting information. Apparently this company ceased to exist with the state as of 2002- nice. Man I can't tell you how thrilled I am that these bastards are getting caught. I only wish I could see the looks on their faces when the police come knocking on their door. Yay, I'm a whistleblower!

-------------------------------------------------------
In other news, when the hell is the freaking cold going to go away? We had such a tease a few days ago when it was 60. Everyone was all happy, the restaurant brought their little tables back out, and then the next day we had a snow storm. Lovely. I am now back to freezing in my apartment (of course on the 60 degree day my heat was working like crazy- but now, not so much). If you could only see what I am wearing now, I am the most mismatched son of a gun there is- but I'm warm and that's all that matters.
Speaking of warm, I bought my plane ticket home to FL today. Ten days of glorious weather, I can't wait. It will be nice to get a little color back on this skin. Seeing my veins through virtually every part of my body isn't as neato as one might think.
-------------------------------------------------------
Ok, this isn't an NBC plug, except that it kind of is. Has anyone seen the new show "The Contender"? Holy shit it is good. I have been waiting for the premiere forever because the promos were so good (yep, they come from the creative folks in my department). I was really afraid that the show would not live up to the advertisements, but it definitely did. I was so emotionally invested just during the first show, I'm sure I will be hooked for the whole season. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out.

A Taste of Home

When I first moved to New York, I was thrilled to see that my new apartment was sharing an address with the "Home Restaurant". Judging by it's country style sign that hangs over the doorway, fresh platter of cookies in the entryway, and a welcoming and warm interior- I was sure that this place would be frequented by my roommate and I as I imagined warm biscuits and hearty breakfasts.

A few months after moving in, my friends and I finally made it to brunch at Home Restaurant. The food was very good, but not at all what we were expecting. It was more of a stylized menu that focused both and on taste and presentation- which of course is great, but again, not "home".

Fast forward to the present.

Although we haven't been actively looking for such a restaurant, we continually would mention how we could really use a good southern type meal. While New York City has an amazing assortment of places to eat, I was having a hard time finding a place with real southern "soul food". Then again, we weren't really looking, just complaining that we hadn't seen any.

So the other night, while deciding where to go eat, I began my search. Out pops the name of a place called "The Pink Teacup". The great part is, its like right around the corner from my apartment. The menu looks great and convinces us enough to head out to Grove Street.

From the outside, there wasn't much that advertises this place as the place for southern cooking, but afterwards, we would see why.

We entered into the small restaurant which boasted pink walls and an enticing array of smells that could make your mouth water even if you just finished a meal. The wall on the left housed various pictures of Martin Luther King Jr, and the wall on the right was adorned by tons of famous people who had been there saying it was the best they have ever had. Apparently Oprah and Whoopi Goldberg are frequent patrons.

As we seated ourselves in the corner we were pleasantly greeted and handed a menu. From start to finish I have to say that this is one of the best meals I have had since I have moved to the city. We started out with a delicious soup that seemed to be made of some type of bean, but in a chicken like broth that had a bite to it. This was followed by a salad and our main course. Now I must say, the menu choices for your main course are extensive, but judging by what I saw everyone else order, there is probably not one thing on there I wouldn't get. For myself, I ordered the BBQ pork, string beans, potatoe salad, and cornbread. Seriously, best damn cornbread I have ever had. Even if you dont like cornbread, you will like this cornbread, guaranteed. Everything was amazingly good. There really wasn't even one part of that meal that was mediocre, right down to their sweet tea.

Not only was the food fabulous, but the atmosphere just made you feel good. The music would flow from good oldies to Usher...always keeping the customers tapping their toes. I just kept waiting for the lady next to me to hop out of her seat and start dancing. Every once in a while you would hear the cook in the kitchen singing some old R&B type a song and it just made you smile.

We finished up our meal with warm peach cobbler- almost in disbelief of how good it was.

As we were finishing up, the line outside of people was growing and growing- waiting for the first table to get up so they could run in and snatch it.

We walked back to our apartment saying how we had to go there at least once a week and imagining how delicious their breakfast must be. We also thought how scary it is that this place was so close, yet we never knew it existed.

Well, for all you nyc'ers who haven't been there, you don't need to be from the south to love this food, you just have to be human.

Needless to say, I am "home".

Water Water Everywhere...

and not one damn drop to drink.

Well I tell you what, there is a surplus of adorable guys that work here at NBC. The bad news, every single one of them is already taken. The even worse news is that they will flirt with you like they are single, invite you out, get you all excited about "possibilities", and then boom- you find out they have a girlfriend.

In the past couple of weeks I have been crushing (for lack of a much better word) on 2 guys that are just both adorable. Actually, there would be 3 guys, one of which looks and acts like Luke Wilson, but I already knew he had a girlfriend- and Im not about going after that. So anyways, back to 2 guys. At first, this one guy I met my first day here because it turns out he was/is good friends with my "nyc boy" - for all of you who remember my posts on him. So anyways, I always kind of viewed him as off limits, except that he grew continually flirty with me and I started to rationalize it in my head. Long story short, went out last night with him and many others- found out he has a girlfriend. Barf.

The other dude is completely adorable too, but much more shy. I wish I could judge his behavior towards me as being reflective of what he thinks of me, but I just can't because my feelings for him are in no way reflected in my actions. I get so freaking stupid around him its awful. I completely clam up and can't even make eye contact with him. Part of me thinks, you are interning here for like 5 more weeks, who cares, just freaking ask him out. I just don't know though. I would like to start off this summer nicely- avoiding all possible rejection.

In other words I am a wuss.

I probably should just give up on guys altogether and get working on my dog farm. That's right- acres and acres of open land with large and small dogs alike living happily and running out in the open. I'll just save all those sheltered pooches and that will be my life. Sounds thrilling right?

Of course it doesn't help that I have been watching the marathon episodes of "Single in the City- New York" on the WE channel. All of these ladies who are living in amazing apartments, have no jobs, and unlimited funds- yea real realistic for me, thanks. Hell if that was my life, I think I'd be ok with not having a man.

Thank goodness in 2 weeks I will be home, laying on the beach, getting tan and loving the Florida weather. I need a vacation bigtime.

Now that I've lost all my readers....

So what can I say, I'm a busy gal. A lot has happened since my last post and since I am lazy just take my word for it that the Navy winging weekend was hella fun....and that I had a GREAT time when my sister visited this past weekend. There, all caught up.

So how was everyone's Valentine's day? Nothing to report here. I went to work, came home, my roommate and I bitched and laughed for a while, then I slipped into my nightly musings of tv, homework, and internet. NYC boy did call me though to say Happy Valentine's day, wasn't that sweet?

For those of you in the NYC area...was today not a beautiful day? Almost 60! I'm so ready for spring and am in desperate need of some kind of tropical vacation. I don't think I have ever been this white, yuck.

I went to see "The Gates" in Central Park this weekend. I guess it was a cool thing to do, mostly just because all of NYC was out there, but as far as how it took 21 years to "develop/realize" this project...well that's beyond me. And why orange? I'm sure there is some kind of reason behind it.

Ok, well enough avoiding studying for my midterm. Just wanted to let you know I was still alive.

Not too shabby

Aside from the hellish week it feels like it has been, its actually been pretty good. I got to meet Dermot Mulroney the other day when he was on the TODAY show, so that was pretty cool. He is just as cute in person, and of course, looks a shorter than he appears onscreen. That seems to be the general difference with most people I've seen.

Last night they ordered me a car and sent me to the set of Third Watch out in Brooklyn. That was pretty neato, especially the whole, "oh, thats my driver", haha, Im such a dork. Oh and I was just coming up the elevator and realized that I was riding up with this chica from SNL.

Aside from that I am super happy because I get to leave work early today because I am flying out to Corpus Christi with some friends to see my good friend Brandon get his wings. He is in the Navy and has been training for what seems like forever to be a jet pilot. So we are looking forward to a weekend of celebration, drinking, and of course hot men in uniform.

Enjoy your weekend and HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIAN :)

Unbelievable

So something has been going on for a while now that I don't believe I have shared with you all on here. It originally was no big concern to me because so much was happening at the time, but now, it make my blood boil thinking about it.

Ever bought anything on Ebay? Sure, most of us have, and for me it has always been a pleasant experience with no difficulties. Well its a whole new ballgame now.

Back in July of 2004, yes that right, almost 7 months ago, I bid on an ipod cover on ebay. I won the bid, was notified by the seller and was then directed to a internet "storefront" where I could complete/track the order since it was actually a business that was the seller. I went to the storefront, got their mailing address, and mailed by check to them. Keep in mind this was all in the time that I was moving out of my Orlando apt, moving back to Melbourne for 2 weeks, and then moving to NYC- there was a lot of shit going on. Anyways, it was about 3 weeks after I moved here (mid September) that I realized I had never received the ipod cover. I went back to the site, looked for a phone number (there was none), and then saw an email address. I emailed the company asking them what was going on. I received an email back from someone named "Ellen" saying they were sorry, that it was sent to the wrong address and they would resend it. Ok, so I gave them my new address and thouht all would be fine. Two weeks later- nothing. I emailed again. "Ellen" responds again saying, "oh sorry, we will send it". Seriously, her emails are that casual. By late October I was getting pissed and I was like forget it, just refund my money, I don't want your fucking product anymore. This is when the fun started. I get an email back from her saying "I will notify the refund department". More time goes by, more emails just like the previous are exchanged. It is now almost December and due to midterms and finals and all that shit I never got around to really putting a lot of time into this matter. I would just get emails back saying "I will personally notify the refund department"- and then of course, you guessed it, nothing! So now I am livid and I begin my "investigation" into this company. I can't find shit on them. Their company name is so general, everything in the world comes up under a search. I went back to their "storefront" and there is still just that address...which results in nothing on a search as well. They aren't listed anywhere, not in the yellow pages, not online, nowhere. I tried emailing back the original seller name off ebay- and of course everything comes back as "undeliverable".

Ok, I'll try to sum up the rest quickly. Long story short, I found the name of the company that provides their interner storefront and I put in a complaint with the fraud/investigation department. I also filed with the IFCC and will be filing with Ebay as well as the Better Business Bureau. I emailed this Ellen chick back a few weeks ago and told her that if they can send me my product I will drop the complaints (no of course I wouldn't). Since then Ive changed my mind because I dont want their stupid product, I just want my money back- not that it's even about money anymore. Anyways, I just got her email this morning and it honestly read:

Ok, its a deal.

We will send your cover.

Ellen

What the fuck is that? A deal? Yea, so you can imagine the email I wrote back to her, explaining that in noncorrupt businesses, a customer pays and the seller delivers, there is no "deal making" as to if either party should actually receive their end.

I know they are thinking I will eventually give up but they are sooooorely mistaken. I am royally pissed off, and I told them that if I have to notify every freaking bureau or complaint department I can, I will. If I know that for just 2 minutes they get a tad scared it will be all worth it. I seriously can't believe this crap though.

Phew, ok that was it, thats the whole story in a nutshell. For those of you who are wondering, the supposed name of the company is all of the following: "The Emporium 2 Company Store", "Emporium 2", and "Indiigo Emporium". They are also supposedly located in Scottsdale, AZ.

I'll keep you updated with what occurs with these bitches. Until then, happy weekend :)

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Well I had my first blizzard last night and I have to say I enjoyed it immensely. Of course I didn't have to be anywhere, so I just stayed nestled up in my apartment with good movies, candles, and hot chocolate. At around 1am my roommate and I threw on all the layers of clothes and ventured out onto our street to snap some photos. Everything looks so cool.

Here is a pic of our street:

And yes, I did go out and make a snow angel. Hey I'm from Florida, I'm allowed to act silly in the snow :)

Holy Moley

Woman Gives Birth to Giant Baby in Brazil

17 lbs of baby

Inside you

I think my Christmas Turkey was 17lbs, have fun with those stretch marks!

Man I love 4 day work weeks

You know, there are actually a good deal of companies now that have made their work week into four 12 hour days or something like that. Off the bat it sounds great, but I don't know, 12 hours?

Anyways, it's Thursday and we all know what that means...The O.C tonight, woohoo! It's also the Apprentice premiere- hopefully it will be good. I saw a couple of boardroom clips yesterday, but not enough to make a judgement on whether or not it will be a good season.

Thank the Lord it is back in the 30's today. Maybe I will make the dreaded trip to the grocery store now. I tell ya, it gets far too easy to just order in or go out when it gets this cold- not to mention pricey. However, my dilemma is this. I have a half-size refridgerator. Yea. Actually..its probably not even half-size, but its bigger than those portable ones you buy for dorm rooms. One of the many perks of an old West Village apartment. Anyways, the actual refridgerator part is small of course, but the freezer is super small. It can probably fit maybe 3 lean cuisines and an ice cube tray. So needless to say its not like I can prepare a lot of meals and keep them on hand- and trust me. I am so sick of salads and sandwiches. Not to mention I am sharing this refridgerator with a roommate, so its not like all the space is mine. Most of the time my day is from 9am to 8:30pm and by the time I get home there is no way in hell I want to cook. I need to brainstorm on some good/easy dinners and lunches I could make- any suggestions?

Wow, that was about one paragraph too many about my refridgerator.

Well it's getting close to Inauguration time so I'm going to get some stuff done before I tune in. That's another NBC perk- they encourage having the tv on in every office. Works for me.

Freeeeezing...literally

So my long awaited "look out my window and see my first New York snow" has finally come. It looked so pretty all over the ground and I found myself constantly looking around and smiling while I was outside. This could be because my face was frozen that way.

So I know I've been neglecting this blog bigtime lately, but with school and work and all the other stuff going on something has got to give and it was this blog among other things. You didn't miss too much though. I was pretty sick all week and am still fighting the remnants of this cold/flu thing. Work has been crazy busy, but super interesting as always. School has been ok too- I did fall asleep in one class last week though. I'm pretty sure someone noticed because I did one of those all of the sudden shakes when you wake yourself up...then I tried to play it off like I was brushing something off me. Yea, it was pretty transparent.

Oh and this was pretty cool...
Brian, Ann, and I were walking back to my apartment from a movie on Tuesday night and guess who we passed walking right by my street? None other than Martin Scorcese. Brian noticed him first because he had made eye contact with him. Pretty neato ehh?

Oh, and for those of you who are thinking, "What can I get for Laura since I was a little bitch and didn't get her anything for Christmas?"....well here is your answer: A San Francisco artist did a cool painting of the street I live on and I want it! Check it out here.

Bing Laden

.....or so he has been dubbed by the BBC.

Maybe off and on you've heard little bits and pieces about Stephen Bing, a "sometimes" Hollywood Producer known for being a Playboy and living off his $400-600 million inheritance. He was probably most reluctantly thrown into the media during his disputes with Elizabeth Hurley who had gotten pregnant with Bing's baby. Bing publicy denied this saying the relationship wasn't serious, blah blah blah until tests came back in that the child was his. There is rumor that after he found out he was the father he asked Hurley to terminate the pregnancy. She refused. During the pregnancy it is said that he made no effort to be in touch with Elizabeth. He apparently has another kid out of wedlock with tennis player Lisa Bonder.

So far it doesn't sound like more than some usual Hollywood drama right? Well here is what I don't get. Stephen Bing has not only been romantically linked to Elizabeth Hurley, but also to Sharon Stone, Brooke Burns, and various others including many models like Gisele Bundchen. Of course, most notably, his most recent conquest has been Nicole Kidman, who is reported to be ready to get serious with him...and possibly get married? These women are all gorgeous.....so, what's going on here? I've never been one to be very superficial, but with this guy's background I would think he would have to be dashing to get some of the women he has had. However, handsome he is not, at least in my opinion. Ok, so maybe he is a great romancer right? Well judging by the poem he apparently wrote for Nicole Kidman, I'm guessing not so much:

"I know we'll be jolly, stuff turkey and wave mistletoe. Even better with friends than flying it solo. Me? I'll do it with this seasonal chick. She's a cool cat. Untie the bow and welcome the other Saint Nic"

Ok, well he has to be doing something right to be getting all these women. It takes a lot more than an amazing bedroom performance to keep a solid relationship with a man. What's your secret Mr. Bing?

In other news....Brad & Jen = separated. I don't know about anyone else, but I had high hopes for these two. It seems like marriage in bigtime Hollywood is impossible. Before you could always look to Tom and Nicole and say, well some make it work. Then there was Brad and Jen, another hopeful couple. Now both couples are gone, what a shame. So who do we have remaining, Antonio and Melanie? Eek.

Get a load of this crap

Just when you think some people have hit an all-time high on the stupidity scale...something pops up to prove you wrong.

Case in point: http://www.azcentral.com/offbeat/articles/0106fearfactor06-ON.html

Change the channel you dumbass!

ps- I'm starting to think Brian Williams is very attractive. Is that wrong?

I heart NBC

Ok, so I am exhausted and I imagine this will be the way I feel all semester. The good news is that my job roccckkkss! Seriously, in just the two days I have been there I have seen so much. We do all the promo clips and teasers for the affiliate networks...mainly for the Today show, Nightly News, and Dateline. Its cool because I get to review these scripts and preview the clips on the edit machines and then take them down to the satellite control area and broadcast them. Its alot more involved than it sounds, but I am way too tired for any detail.

Another cool thing is that we film with Brian Williams everyday. We do the promo clips that precede the Nightly News with him every night so yesterday I was on the Nightly News set. I didn't get to meet Brian yet though because he is in Indonesia. Maybe next week.
I also was on the set of Dateline, NBC Sports, Last Call with Carson Daly, and then backstage at SNL....all very cool.

My NYC boy came and took me out to lunch today because thats the kind of sweetie he is. It really sucks that he's already flying back to Cali tomorrow :( First day of school was today too. The class was cool though, its "The Television Industry". My teacher seems really cool and we are using the book he wrote as our textbook so thats kinda neat...not to mention it was only $30, thank God.

Alrighty, Im exhausted so Im out. Nighty poo.

And so it begins

Well here it is, the first day of a new year. I have to say that last year was quite life altering in a multitude of ways. Since most of it was documented here, those faithful readers I have had since the beginning know exactly what I mean.

Looking back at the many things that happened it pretty much leaves anything and everything as a possibility for what this year could entail. I like that. I like that life is so unpredicatable. I like that at age 25 I am still learning things I thought I had already figured out. John Lennon once said "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans", how right he was. Sometimes I really need to step outside myself to be able to take in everything going on around me. Sometimes I forget that I am living in the greatest city because it has oddly given me a very "at home" feeling that I wasn't expecting so soon. Of course nothing can replace my real home. I've only been back in NYC for one day and I already miss it, not the place so much as the people.

As far as a new year's resolution, I can't say I really have one yet. It seems like this year it needs to be much more than some cliche resolution like losing weight or whatever. Something that actually has meaning. I'll let you know when I figure it out, if I do. I guess if I were to hope for anything in the following year it would be a wish of health and happiness for everyone I know and love. What more do you need than that right?

Last night I had my first NYE kiss in wow, maybe 5 years? Not just an NYE kiss, I mean like one with someone you.....love. Yikes, did I just type that? My NYC turned LA guy rang in the new year with me and I must say it was a terrific time. Unfortunately he leaves again in a few days, and I guess my world goes on.

So in conclusion and in celebration of 2004, a year of change, here is what I learned:

-Time alone is good, and living alone is actually quite wonderful
-Hard work does reap great rewards, although sometimes not immediately
-Ben & Jerry's "Primary Berry Graham" is what I imagine sex with Chris Carrabba to be like, delicious
-Sometimes taking a chance and making the first move can be quite rewarding
-Nothing replaces the feeling of "home"
-Ann and I are capable of driving a 15ft truck pretty much anywhere
-standardized tests are bullshit
-when you love someone, you tell them
-never settle

Happy New Year.
